Post-harvest Handling & Food Quality Monitoring
Hesham A. Gawad has a background in horticulture, post-harvest physiology and plant physiology. During his career he has held positions with different research institutes and universities, like the University of Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), the Arab Development Institute (Tripoli, Libya) and the California State University (Fresno, USA). He also worked as a horticulturist and extension specialist in Yemen and Oman for the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).
He has been involved in a variety of projects, ranging from developing technologies and packaging for maintaining the quality of fresh-cut vegetables to providing training in food safety, cold storage and post-harvest handling of fruit and vegetables. Furthermore, he is author/co-author of several patents, a textbook on experimental plant physiology and more than 300 reports and research papers. Currently, he works as an independent consultant.
